HaptX Gloves G1 Quick Start Guide

Plugging Into Power

The HaptX Airpack will need to connect to a power source to operate. To connect, plug the Power Supply into the base of the Airpack as shown, then plug the other end into a power source.

NOTE: For customers outside of the USA, a separate IEC cable has been included with each power supply shipped. Make sure to use the correct IEC cable when plugging into a power source. Please alert HaptX Support if an alternative cable is needed.

Optional: Mobile Battery

The HaptX Gloves G1 system in Mobile configuration operates on battery power. To start, insert the battery into the top of the Airpack as shown.

After finishing use of the Airpack, make sure to remove the battery and place it in the charging dock to allow it to fully charge.

  1. HaptX Gloves G1 Configuration

The Airpack supplies pressurized air and regulates the pressurized air supplied to the HaptX Gloves G1. To prevent overheating, do not obstruct any of the vents or place in a confined space with limited air circulation. For some applications, an optional supplemental air source may be used. If this is the case, place the supplemental air source near the table (in Stationary configuration) or on the edge of the room space (in Mobile configuration).

  2. Attach Gloves to Airpack

    1. Make sure the Airpack is resting feet side down. Select the appropriately sized Glove using the HaptX hand sizing guidelines. If the hand is between sizes, please size up. Click here for the HaptX hand sizing guidelines.

    2. Place the left glove on the left side of the Airpack, and the right glove on the right side.

    3. Line up the tether connector with the Airpack connector and push gently to align.

    4. Twist the nut as far as possible by hand to tighten the connection.

    5. Attach the USB C cable from the tether to the Airpack.

Note: Do not put any foreign substances, such as oil, WD-40™, or grease anywhere on the Airpack, Gloves, or their connections. Please contact HaptX Support with any issues connecting the Glove to the Airpack.

  3. Optional: Attach Backpack Accessory (Mobile Configuration)

    1. Place the Airpack on a flat surface with the HaptX logo face down.

    2. Place the Backpack Accessory on top of the Airpack, lining up all four of the Fidlocks™ and holding the straps above the backplate.

    3. Once the Fidlock™ magnets snap into place, twist the knobs on the top two Fidlocks™ to lock them into place.

    4. Ensure the Fidlocks™ are secure by gently lifting on the backpack accessory. If they are secure, pick up and put on the backpack as normal.

    5. Make sure to adjust the backpack accessory using the straps on the top of the shoulders and at the waist to ensure the most comfortable fit.

    6. For the most secure fit, utilize the hip and chest straps.

    7. Handle the Airpack with care while in the Mobile configuration. Gently set the system down when doffing the backpack, and make sure that that Airpack is always set down directly on the feet, never resting on the bottom or sides.

Note: Resting the Airpack on the connectors may damage the connectors.

  4. Power on the Airpack

    1. On the bottom of the Airpack, toggle the power switch on.

    2. The system will go through a startup cycle. It is complete when the battery, Airpack and Wi-Fi LED lights are blue. (Please see next steps for connecting to Wi-Fi if in Mobile Configuration.)

    3. The system is working as normal even if very little sound comes from the compressor and fans. However, when VR content is started, the Airpack will emit the light sound of the system running.

  5. How to Don a HaptX Glove

    1. Don a hygiene glove, then guide your fingers into the HaptX Glove, palm face up.

    2. Pull on the HaptX Glove using the pull tab on the wrist and the back of hand casing.

    3. Tighten the back of hand dial lacer.

    4. Tighten the wrist dial lacer.

    5. Repeat steps for the next glove.

    6. Check to make sure the glove feels secure, and that the fingertips reach the tip of the glove. Gently press down on the tip of the gloves to ensure they are well seated against the finger tips.

  6. How to Doff the HaptX Glove

    1. Release both lacers by twisting them counterclockwise. The lacers are released once a clicking sound is heard.

    2. Pull on the orange tabs to loosen the lacers.

    3. Pull on the back of hand casing to doff the glove. Warning: Do not pull on the fingertips to doff your HaptX glove.

  7. Wi-Fi Set Up (Mobile Configuration)

If using the HaptX Gloves G1 system in Mobile configuration, the Airpack will need to be connected to Wi-Fi.

    1. To start, open the HaptX Dashboard. Navigate to the Setup Wizard.

      1. Go to Device, then Wireless Setup.

      2. Alternatively, select View, then Settings.

    2. Click Next on the Setup Wizard introduction page.

    3. The Network Setup page utilizes existing Wi-Fi infrastructure (router, etc.). Enter the SSID and password for the router.

    4. Choose to use DHCP to automatically assign an IP address to the Airpack, or specifically a static IP.

      1. If using DHCP, it is recommended to configure your network to reserve an IP for the Airpack to avoid having to update the IP in the settings whenever it changes.

      2. When finished, click Next.

    5. On the Transmit Settings page, please connect the Airpack to the computer via USB. Once completed, click Next.

    6. The Connection page will run through the steps to update the Airpack with the new settings. It will then reboot and wait for it to connect.

      1. It will detect the assigned IP and use that to populate the “IP Address” box in the Settings dialog box.

      2. Once it connects, click Finish.

        Note for IT Administration:

        • The HaptX Airpack listens for TCP connections on socket 31337. This port must be allowed though any established firewall.

        • The HaptX Airpack listens for (and responds to) ICMP Echo requests (i.e., “pings”). ICMP traffic must be allowed through any established firewall.

        • The HaptX Airpack does not initiate outbound connections.

  8. VR Headset & Trackers Set Up

The HaptX Gloves G1 system can be operated with a variety of Virtual Reality Headsets and Trackers. To set these up to work with the HaptX Gloves G1 system, please visit the preferred Headset and Trackers manufacturer’s website for instructions on how to set them up.

  9. Stationary or Room-Scale Configuration for VR

The HaptX Gloves G1 can be used in a Stationary configuration for seated and standing- only VR experiences, or in a Mobile configuration for room-scale VR experiences using the Backpack Attachment. Before starting the session, decide which configuration will best. The HaptX SDK supports headsets that use SteamVR™ but others may be compatible. Follow the set-up instructions provided by the headset manufacturer to set up the space in stationary or room scale modes.

When using the HaptX Gloves G1 for standing-only stationary use, it is recommended to use an adjustable table to optimize the height of the table for the height of the user.

Please note: Do not use or store the HaptX Gloves G1 system outdoors.

  10. Shutdown Process

When the user is done utilizing the HaptX Gloves G1 system or if they are looking to move the system to a new location, they should follow these steps to properly shut down the system:

    1. On the bottom of the Airpack, toggle the power switch off.

    2. When packing the system to be moved, disconnect everything and follow the diagrams on the supplied boxes to repack.
